TIRL calls for peace during this election period

The Thusian Institute for Religious Liberty (TIRL) Inc strongly condemns all violence, anti-rights and anti-freedoms behaviour during this election period.{{more}}

In a release issued on December 1, TIRL said the institute is a Human Rights Education organization, with special emphasis on the Religious Liberty Right- the First Right.

“TIRL understands the importance of these elections to Vincentians and we implore all to soberly exercise their inalienable or God-given and constitutionally protected rights and freedoms. You may exercise your freedom of choice, but please respect the rights and freedoms of others. Debate, convince, propagate your views, but do not resort to violent actions against your fellow human beings,” the release said.

We all have our political freedom to belong to any party of our choice and to lawfully propagate our ideas without interference. The constitution of this country clearly states that a person “…shall not be hindered in the enjoyment of his freedom of expression…freedom to communicate ideas and information…; and a person …shall not be hindered in enjoyment of his freedom of assembly and association” Section 10(1); Section11(1).

“Understanding the influence of leaders on their supporters, we call upon the Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves Leader of the Unity Labour Party (ULP) to openly promote peace and foster, through his words and conduct, tolerance and respect for the rights and freedoms of all citizens. We urge the leader of the Opposition, New Democratic Party Hon. Arnhim Eustace to continue to do likewise,” the release said.

TIRL also call upon supporters of both political parties (ULP and NDP) to exercise tolerance and respect the rights and freedoms of each other.

“May God give us wisdom continually as a people, that we may be freedom-loving and tolerant during this period and beyond.

“Long live freedom in SVG and may Righteousness exalt our nation as we exercise our God-given Rights and Freedoms in accordance with His will!”
