This latest addition to the Brewery’s capabilities was unveiled on Monday, November 15.

Franklyn Leon, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Brewery, said that Monday’s launch was the result of a promise made in 2009 during the Brewery’s 25th anniversary.

“We announced that we would be launching canning capabilities for serving the local market,” Leon said.

He said that the new system has the capacity to produce over 1,500 cans per hour.

The ceremony also unveiled a waste water treatment plant, which is under construction, but is expected to be ready by next month.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves lauded the initiative, saying that the introduction of the canning facility put an end to the problem of the Brewery having to import cans, particularly during festival times.

“One problem of importing cans is that all value added is reduced,” Gonsalves said.

“While consumption was going up, production was not and it had to be due to the importation of the cans,” he continued. (DD)
