Vincies to hold fund raising concert in NY

Vincentians in New York City will this Sunday afternoon come together in what is expected to be a major fund-raising drive to assist in the rebuilding process in St. Vincent after the ravages of Hurricane Tomas.{{more}}

This mega-concert will take place at Crystal Manor (1460 Flatbush Avenue, between Farragut and Glenwood) and will commence at 4:00pm.The show will feature the diaspora’s main Vincentian artists, musicians and other cultural stalwarts. Among those slated to appear are: Becket, Winston Soso, Scorcher, Skinny Fabulous, Problem Child, Bomani, Lively, Tamisha, Demus, Al Wilson, and a host of other artists. The legendary Frankie McIntosh will also make a special appearance along with other big bands such as Clymax, Impack 2 and Solid. The Vincentian oriented steel orchestra “Century USA” will be a part of the evening’s entertainment as will 101.5 Brooklyn Mix, which will be broadcasting the proceedings live on www.brooklynmix.com. A live video feed is also expected to be set up so that Vincentians around the world can be a part of the evening’s activities.

Expected to speak at Sunday’s function are SVG’s Ambassador to the United States La Celia Prince; SVG’s Ambassador to the United Nations – Camillo Gonsalves, and Grenada’s Consul General to New York – Derrick James. Co-ordinator for the concert – Junior ‘Soca’ Jones has indicated that the response from the diaspora has been very promising and that a bumper crowd is expected to be in attendance. Jones has promised an evening of true Vincy Cultural Diversity with two generations of soca artists and calypsonians.

Tickets for the occasion are on sale for $25 and are available in just about every Vincentian business house in Brooklyn. All participants for the evening are offering their services free of charge as their contribution to the relief effort. Also helping in the co-ordination of the show along with Soca Jones are: Hailes Castello, Attie Biddy, Franklyn ‘Supadex’ Richards, Gen Crichton, Garnes Byron and Atiba ‘Tiba’ Williams.
