Communications Consultant to the Prime Minister Elson Crick has offered to resign over what he has termed “an honest mistake”.{{more}}

Earlier today, Crick circulated, to the media, a copy of what was said to be the address made by Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves on Sunday, November 14 at a rally of the Unity Labour Party at Calliaqua. In the address, the date for the General Elections was stated as December 15th, 2010.

“Today, I formally advised His Excellency the Governor General that Parliament be dissolved on November 15th. Nomination Day will be November 26th. General Elections will be held on December 15th,” the relevant section of the circulated speech said.

However late on Monday afternoon, Crick called Searchlight and said that he had made an error, as the document given to him by the Prime Minister contained blanks in respect of the dates for the proroguing of the House of Assembly, Nomination Day, and the date for the Election. He said he typed in the date December 15th instead of December 13th in error.

Crick said it is clear from the Prime Minister’s references to passages from the Bible that the Opposition Leader called the date wrong.

“I have already apologized to the Prime Minister verbally. I will do so in writing,and will place my letter of resignation at his disposal,” Crick’s letter said. Meanwhile, Prime Minister

Dr Ralph Gonsalves told Searchlight late Monday afternoon that he is not accepting Crick’s resignation as “he made an honest error. He is an honest man and would not be involved in any sabotage.”
