TGHF felt it was important for the members of the traditional Garifuna Communities to once come together and continue the process of organizing collective community responses to the challenges facing them.

This Community Gathering is a collaborative effort between TGHF and all the Garifuna Communities. The GATHERING will once again be bringing together six traditional Garifuna Communities of St.Vincent and the Grenadines to share knowledge , discuss ideas and formulate strategies for the promotion of the Garifuna culture and heritage as well as the economic and social issues which need to be addressed. These communities are Fancy, Owia, Sandy Bay, Greggs, Rose Bank and Rose Hall. This event is being held under the theme “Facilitating Change: Building the Economic Sustainability of Garifuna Communities in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines”. The venue for the Gathering is the Owia Government School. There will be presentations from each community on the issues relating to the Garifuna Heritage and culture, and there will also be cultural presentations from the communities.

It is expected that there will be over 150 participants from the communities, and that TGHF will continue after the Gathering to work with the communities to network, build and strengthen their links with each other and develop the understanding of the history and culture.

The Garifuna Heritage Foundation (TGHF) is a non profit organization formed in 2001 with the aim of promoting the culture and heritage of the Garifuna people.
