SVG gets ready to celebrate the  31st anniversary of Indepedence


More groups, institutions and organizations are getting involved in activities to mark the anniversary of Independence in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}}

At a press conference held by the Ministry of Culture at their conference room on Tuesday, October 5, Culture Minister René Baptiste, accompanied by representatives from various groups and committees, outlined a number of activities that are scheduled to take place leading up the October 27 Independence Day and beyond.

Reading from a calendar of events, the Minister highlighted that on Independence Day, the highly anticipated military parade will take place at the Victoria Park in Kingstown.

She also informed that a group from Brazil will be performing that day at Heritage Square at a special Independence rally.

Other events slated for the month of October include the visits to the graves of nation builders Robert Milton Cato and George McIntosh, among others, on the 21st, Pink Cap City Walk on the 15th, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Gospel Fest Bible Quiz on October 8th (today) and 17th, and college and career exhibition on the 13th on 14th.

More exhibitions set to take place include an agricultural showcase on the 15th, on the 20th and 21st by the SVG Chamber of Industry and Commerce, credit union exhibition and market place, as well as women entrepreneur of SVG on the 22nd, and a visual arts exhibition from November 1st to 5th.

The Credit Unions here will host a week of activities from the 17th to the 23rd, beginning with a church service and culminating with an inter sport day.

Cuba national culture day will be observed on the 20th, a church service and prayer for the nation takes place on the 24th, an information fair put on by the Ministry of Transport and Works on the 26th, and a schools’ rally at Victoria Park also on the 26th.

A number of musical events down for the month of October include pan concerts on the 10th, 17th and 29th, and SVG music awards on the 19th.

The National Commercial Bank Theatre Arts Festival also begins on the weekend of the 29th, with a performance by the Urban Expressions group.
