Sherikah Liverpool, semi-finalist in this year’s national competition, took the top spot. Former secondary school’s calypso champion, Zamfir ‘Zangie’ Adams, placed second, with young Kenley Baptiste rounding up the top three.

Six young calypsonians participated in the event which, according to Opposition Senator Daniel Cummings, was designed to give young talent, which would not ordinarily have an opportunity, to be involved in the competitive aspect of the calypso business.

“This is a chance for youths with some cultural inclination, particularly calypso,” Daniel explained.

Veteran Calypsonian and musician, Robert ‘Patches’ Knights, is credited with coming up with the idea, and, according to him, there is a real need for young, emerging talent in the calypso industry.

He noted that the competition was created with the intention that more young people will become exposed to competition, thereby giving them an avenue to refine their craft.
