Leacock – ULP will die when Gonsalves leaves

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has been labelled a killer of political parties.{{more}}

This bold claim was made by Senator St. Clair Leacock, Vice President of the New Democratic Party (NDP).

“He is not only a grave digger, but a killer of political parties. He loves himself and himself alone,” said Leacock at a politcal meeting at New Grounds last Saturday, where he warned the Party faithful not to give the Unity Labour Party (ULP) a third term in office.

Targeting his rhetoric directly at Gonsalves, Leacock stated: “Ralph Gonsalves has been a proverbial gravedigger. Every single thing he has joined, he had joined from the top and gone down.When he was at YULIMO and he left, the political party died. He went to the UPM and when he left, the UPM died. He went to the MNU and when he left it died. And, I tell you when he leaves the ULP, that Party, too, will die.”

Leacock stirred the crowd by telling them Gonsalves is already staring at defeat.

Leacock also levelled his criticism on the current crop of ULP representatives.

He told the gathering these representatives have been found wanting by their own political party recently in an internal meeting.

Leacock noted as a result of the findings, the ULP has been told to make massive changes going into the General Elections.

“If they on their own accord can find their own candidates unsuitable to be representing you, why should you the people of St.Vincent and the Grenadines and South Central Windward hesitate but to take their message and vote out the ULP completely from Government in St.Vincent and the Grenadines?” asked Leacock.

Leacock expressed confidence that history is being created in St.Vincent and the Grenadines where the Government’s and Opposition’s political standings are concerned.

He told the gathering: “It is the first time in our living political history that the Government is running against the Opposition.”

According to Leacock, this is so because the NDP has already given the electorate a clear indication of quality candidates who will be representing them, while the ULP struggles to find candidates.

“Brother Bash (Adison Thomas) made an observation that even now, while he is the candiate to be for the New Democratic Party, he already has two men marking him and as he likes to put it: Walters and the other guy,” quipped Leacock.

He said the same scenario is being played out in West Kingstown where Minister René Baptiste and Senator Michelle Fife are in the House.

Regarding the upcoming General Elections, Leacock is optimistic the NDP will win overwhelmingly. (HN)
