Vincentians Leon Edwards, 32, of Questelles, and Dave Matthews, 31, of Ottley Hall, as well as Barbadian Victor Bowen, a 49-year-old fisherman of Melrose, St. Thomas, appeared in the Holetown Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Ian Weekes and were not required to plead to the indictable charges.

They are jointly charged with conspiring with other people to traffic the 2,397 pounds of ganja possession with intent to supply, unlawful importation, and trafficking on March 9. The three were arrested just off Road View in St. Peter in an operation involving a number of security agencies.

The two Vincentians were also charged separately with entering Barbados illegally and disembarking from a vessel without the consent of an immigration officer.

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Keith Belle objected to bail on the grounds that the offences were serious, the quantity of the illegal contraband; that the two Vincentians were a flight risk and that Bowen had six previous convictions, having been incarcerated for periods of 12 and 15 years for similar offences.

The Prosecutor reasoned: “He has a propensity to commit similar offences.”
