Students entering secondary schools for the first time got a taste of what to expect and what is expected of them when several secondary schools in St. Vincent and the Grenadines hosted an orientation day last Friday.{{more}}

The students, most of them accompanied by parents or guardians, turned up at their respective schools in full uniform, and were introduced to the faculty, given instructions on school rules and dress codes, and benefitted from a tour of the institution that will be their second home for the next five years.

This year, more than 2,400 students will enter the first form, following the 2009 Common Entrance, where 2,522 sat the examinations.

These students, along with the rest of the school population, were scheduled to be back in class this week, but because of the postponement of Teachers’ Professional Development Week to this week, students will now return to school next Monday.

The new school year will also see two secondary schools moving into brand new buildings. The Dr JP Eustace Memorial will now be located at Edinboro, while the Barrouallie Secondary will be located at Peter’s Hope.(JJ)
