This was the assurance given by Ambassador of Taiwan to this country, Ambassador Leo Lee, who last Monday presented EC$3 million to Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, towards the National Library project.

Ambassador Lee said that he believes the centre piece of this project, the National Library, now in the final stages of construction at Richmond Hill, will be the best in the Eastern Caribbean when completed.

In his address to the media, Dr Gonsalves explained that the National Library is the centre piece of the National Library project, which included the relocation of the Technical Centre and YWCA pre school and the construction of the National Archives and Documentation Centre.

The Prime Minister explained that Taiwan pledged US$7.5 million for the project and so the government has been spending its own money, which is then reimbursed by Taiwan.

Dr Gonsalves also used the opportunity to dismiss any suggestion that in the midst of technological advancement, building a library may be a waste of time.

“Books are always going to be with us,” he said.

He however stressed that technological facilities are part of the new facility.(KJ)
