The first night of the two-night Gospel Fest National Showcase got off to quite a bang last Saturday, April 25, at the Victoria Park.{{more}}

All the God given talent of the performers was displayed with much vigor and zeal as persons from the different church denominations around St Vincent and the Grenadines performed to throngs of worshippers gathered at the park.

There was no denying the raw talent of Alyssa Bullock from the New Life Ambassadors, who sang like a seasoned professional in front of the flashing lights and adoring fans. The night also saw performances coming in Dance, Choir, Duets, Monologues, Mime, Band and Sermonette.

Giving a stellar performance was nine-year-old Junio Kelly of the Faith and Life Pentecostal, whose sermonette “Rejoice in the Lord” had many on the edge of their seats and yearning for more of the word of God.

However, most persons could not contain their anticipation for feature artiste, Anthony “Papa Das” Glasgow who had the crowd gyrating their bodies in front of the stage despite the inclement weather. Hands were lifted to the grey skies as the showers of blessings from the Almighty rained on many, but not on their parade.

Giving brief remarks at the showcase, Chairman of the Gospel Fest committee, Fidel Taylor said that fest has grown by leaps and bounds over the past seven years. Taylor says that he believes that God raised the festival up for good reasons. He however believes that there is still a lot to be done in the years to come. Some of the plans in the pipeline include work on the festival’s new website.

Culture minister Rene Baptiste said that it is quite pleasing to see that the objectives of Gospel Fest are being fulfilled. Baptiste said she was particularly impressed in seeing the young men actively partaking in the activities of Gospel Fest and urged them to continue along the straight and narrow path.

The seventh annual gospel fest was held under the theme: Rejoice in the Lord”.(KW)
