Wow Creations, founded by Anica Maynard, is on the cusp of making history in St. Vincent and the Grenadines by hosting the first bridal exposition of its kind.{{more}}

Set to take place on June 7, 2009, the event aims to showcase the latest trends, provide wedding day advice and promote the expertise of those involved in all aspects of the wedding industry. Namely: wedding planners and decorators, photographers, caterers, travel agents and many more.

There will also be a fashion show exhibiting wedding attire available from VSP Bridal fashions, located in the McDowall Building. And more interestingly, there will be a live wedding ceremony starting at 4pm on the scheduled date – referred to by Maynard as “the first reality wedding ceremony” to take place in SVG.

At a press conference on Monday, April 20th, Maynard, who founded the company in 2006, expressed that her aim is to provide a boost for the wedding industry. “We’re launching this expo… in an effort to breathe life into a market that often lacks creativity and a young, fresh approach.” Additionally, she explained that the bridal show also aims to “help exhibitors reach the next level in business.”

Maynard further encouraged the public to patronize the event as it will cater to all tastes and, more importantly, all budgets. With a wealth of experience in airline customer service, interior design, colour consultation, event planning and venue decoration, Maynard promises that this will be a treat for couples planning to tie the knot.

In her remarks, Senior Marketing Officer at the SVG Tourism Authority (SVGTA) Belinda Francis related that the Ministry of Tourism and the SVGTA are pleased to be a part of this venture as they see wedding and honeymoon destinations as an excellent niche market to become involved in. “St. Vincent and the Grenadines is really unique… it has such a diverse product.”

Moreover, she expressed that it is an opportune time to infiltrate the market, as St. Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda and Barbados have already tapped into it. “It would be remiss of us not to promote SVG as a wedding and honeymoon destination… by partnering with Anica, it provides great opportunities…” Francis was mindful to point out that some of the Grenadine islands, such as Young Island, Canouan, Mayreau and Palm Island already have experience with destination weddings.

Natasha Roberts, Country Manager for Going Places Travel, and Marina Lampkin, Tourism Education Officer and focal point for HIV Awareness in the Ministry of Tourism also gave brief remarks.
