The evening, themed “An Emerald Night in Brooklyn”, honoured six powerful women, among them: Humanitarian and Community Activist, Nelcia Hazell, who hails from St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Each year, the Woman of Great Esteem Emerald Award recognizes the contributions of women who have excelled beyond normal expectations in society. More specifically, the institution honours women worldwide for their extraordinary contributions to world peace. According to WGE Founder, the Rt. Rev. Sylveta Hamilton-Gonzales, “The Emerald Award honours women who are precious like the emerald. It’s a medium that empowers the recipients to ascend to their next level on the ladder of accomplishments and world recognition”.

The Award symbolizes victory or triumph and continued pursuit of community spirited ideals. The recipient, Nelcia Hazell, also received a congratulatory message from the Mayor of New York, a New York City Council Citation, a Certificate of Appreciation from the New York Senate, and a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from the United States Congress.

Celia Zuckerman, President and CEO of New York Congregational Nursing Centre, and a 2007 Woman of Great esteem recipient, was the evening’s Keynote Speaker.
