Victor Chester Peli never lived to see his dream come true.

The native of Mayreau wanted to ensure that all children in his homeland received the opportunity to get an education, which he did not have when he was a child.{{more}}

So for the past seven years, his son Jerome Alexander and other family members have been fulfilling his wishes by donating school supplies to students of primary schools in the Grenadines.

Last week, Alexander presented the stationery and equipment on behalf of the family to the Mayreau Primary School and the Mary Hutchinson Primary school.

Alexander, who resides in Norm’s Road, Carrington’s Village, St. Michael, Barbados, left the Grenadine isle when he was an infant, but still finds the time to return whenever possible.

The security officer, employed at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus, said that the decision to give back to the students was shared among other family members, who work as teachers, construction workers, bank employees, among others.

He called on other nationals to give back to their country and communities in any way they can, and indicated that during his presentations to the schools he encouraged the youngsters to give back when they grow up.

Distancing himself and family from the word philanthropists, Alexander said that they are just giving back to their country as much as they can, and look forward to doing so again in the future. (JJ)
