Tonight, local Soca Monarch Gamal ‘Skinny’ Fabolous Doyle will be hoping to fit another crown on his royal head. He will be coming up against 11 other finalists in Trinidad, as they vie for the title of 2009 International Soca Monarch.{{more}}

In a telephone conversation with SEARCHLIGHT from Jamaica, the “Head Bad” sensation said that all systems are go and that he is ready to show the world what talent this country has to offer. Doyle will be stomping the same stage as defending champion Bunji Garlin, and Shurwayne Winchester.

He said that fans could expect a high adrenalin performance that is going to leave Vincentians in Trinidad and here at home with a feeling of pride that they are from this blessed isle. “I am declaring now that it will be something formidable,” Doyle assured, and that he will not be a push-over.

Since his song “Head Bad” was released last year, Doyle said it has been well accepted across the masses, and is helping to shed more focus on St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Things couldn’t be going any better for this young prodigy. On Sunday, February 15, 2009, Doyle did a video shoot of “Head Bad” in Trinidad. The video, which was supposed to feature some Vincentians, was produced by Oxygen. Plans were afoot to have the Vincentians flown to Trinidad for the video shoot, but that proved to be problematic. He said that they did not receive any waivers from LIAT, and got little support from the local business community leading up to the video shoot and his participation in the Soca Monarch.

Doyle said numerous attempts were made to reach out to the business places, but their response was dismal. “We have not been getting the support as expected. It is heart-wrenching to see that representatives from other countries have full support and we have little coming our way,” Doyle added.

Despite all the shortcomings, Doyle took the time to thank Minister of Tourism, Glen Beache, for his support and also his “Non-Fiction” family here in St Vincent.
