Professionals in various fields, including the Police and entrepreneurs, were on hand to lend their expertise to the students.

In his remarks, Principal Hugh Thomas, while recalling some of the school’s accomplishments thus far, which included most improved school in the CXC/csec examinations in the 2006- 2007 academic year, said: “We need to focus on the value added to each student during their sojourn at this institution” and not measure success by the number of passes that are gained at the external examinations.

Thomas stated that it is the institution’s philosophy not to marginalize students, but instead to find “avenues to develop their innate potential”. With his dedicated staff who he said are “willing to go the extra mile”, Thomas believes students’ “minds are refocused, habits altered and characters transformed”.

He encouraged the students to capitalise on the “rare and unique” opportunity given to them, and believes that the event is a “catalyst to propel you forward to fulfill a productive life”.

Meanwhile, Senior Education Officer Carlton Hall congratulated the staff for organizing such an important event, and said it will help eliminate students’ uncertainty about their chosen career path.

He told the students that it is important for them to stay in school because it is “designed to prepare you for your career”.

Hall encouraged the students to be the best in their choice of career and said they can only do so if they prepare themselves. (VM)
