“Rose Bank may be a small rural village, but it has big ambitions.” That’s according to Everal Ince, who spearheads the lighting of the village in the annual Christmas Lighting competition.{{more}}

Rose Bank has been participating in the competition for the past eight years and has always won the zonal competition; they have taken the national championship twice, including last year.

Ince told SEARCHLIGHT that their theme this year is “And it came to pass, ten years of Christmas lighting; we’re celebrating with real class”.

Ince said the design team tries to change its designs each year so that the display would not look repetitive. He is looking forward to a third win this year.

Rose Bank launched their 2008 display on Thursday evening and had to face the judges on Friday. Ince said that they spent close to $6,000 this year and that they tried to keep down expenses by recycling and being innovative by using materials like used tires, old bicycle rims, bottles, bamboo and thatch.

The three main persons responsible for lighting Rose Bank are Ince, Fernando Crooke and Karl ‘Chainsaw’ Alexander. Chainsaw said that he wants to see more persons coming forward and helping to help lift the community.

The winners of the National Christmas Lighting Competition will be announced on Wednesday, December 24th. (AC)
