National Drama Festival ends

With a red carpet walk that would make the Who’s Who of Hollywood jealous, the curtains came down on the 2008 National Commercial Bank (NCB) National Drama Festival last week Saturday, December 13.{{more}}

Four of the five participating groups took to the red carpet at the Peace Memorial Hall, where individuals in each group were awarded for performances in their individual plays.

The Festival, which got started on October 31st, saw the groups producing and promoting their features, under the guidance of the drama department of the Ministry of Culture.

Taking the stage at the ‘Peace Mo’ during the month long festival were the Waves Drama Club, with their production ‘Wedded Bliss 2’, followed by the Performing Arts Society of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, with ‘Jinks Wedding’, and ‘Don’t Tell Nobody’ by the Methodist Dramatists.

They were followed by the Police Drama Club, with ‘Life of Joseph’, and Urban Expression’s ‘The Final Verdict’ wrapped up the festival.

At Saturday’s closing ceremony, each group, with the exception of the Waves Drama Club, awarded their members and outstanding performers in various categories, including Best Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, and other areas.

They also put on a cultural performance.

The closing was addressed by head of the Drama department in the Ministry of Culture Martin Quashie, representative of the NCB Cheryl Rodriguez and Minister of Culture Rene Baptiste, who all expressed delight and pleasure in not only the groups’ performances but also in the running of the festival.

Next year’s festival promises to bigger and better, according to organizers.

From Urban Expressions, the winners were: Best Actor: Rodney Small; Best Actress: Shenika Joyette; Best Supporting Actor: Stanley Johnson; Best Supporting Actress: Shafana Williams; Best Actor in a minor role: Kenille Brudy; Best Actress in a minor role: Donette Brudy; Person of the Year: Kemuel Miller; Special Award; Kadeem Laidlow.

From the Performing Arts Society of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, the Best Actor: Jared Gordon; Best Actress: Lakiesha Patterson; Best supporting Actor: Jason Bowens; Best supporting Actress: Faydon Ferguson.

From the Police Drama Club: Best Actor: Kenroy Ottley; Best Actress: Judy Davis; Best Supporting Actor: Delando Charles; Best Supporting Actress: Jihan Lampkin.

Members of the Methodist Dramatists were all awarded for their part in the play ‘Don’t Tell Nobody’.
