The two-day Exhibition, organized by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Medical Association, saw 25 exhibitors showcasing what their institutions have to offer to the numerous students and individuals who flocked to the hall.

Paul Douglas, Marketing Assistant Officer at the Caribbean Maritime Institute, said the tertiary level institution he represents specializes in maritime education, with a focus on providing training for persons interested in working both on land and ships in the allied shipping industry. The 28-year-old institution is located in Jamaica and offers a number of programmes included Shipping and Logistics and Engineering.

Also displaying what they have to offer to the Vincentian public was the University of the Technology (UTECH). UTECH, which was previously called the College of Arts, Science and Technology (CAST), boasts six different faculties. These include: Built Environment, Engineering and Computing and a new Law programme to begin in January 2009.

International student Co-ordinator Verona Henry said that her school is presently accepting students for the three-year programme. She said at present, the institution is “evolving and fine tuning” their product. She also stated that UTECH has a very active sports program and expressed the view that the “world’s leading athletes are all past students” of the 50-year-old institution.

Some of the other institutions present included newly formed Trinity University School of Medicine and Canadian Universities Seneca and The Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences. The Cadet Force and the Special Services Unit of the Police Force were among the exhibitors.

President of the SVG Medical Association Dr Rosalyn Ambrose described the Exhibition as “quite successful.” She said the association hosts one educational event each year, of which the career fair forms part. (VM)
