Representing the school were Kyle James, Cornelius Neptune and Taj Lee. They will represent St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the regional semi-finals in Dominica, scheduled to take place on October 21st. The SVGS boys gave consistently correct answers in the 2-round quiz. They were quizzed in the categories of: Caribbean Heritage Sites, Caribbean Integration and Economic Affairs, Caribbean Sports, Caribbean History, Caribbean Literature and Music, Caribbean Educational Institutions and Scholars, National Emblems and the Life of the biblical character Joseph.

The winners, who appeared elated at their triumph, will receive the Prime Minister’s Trophy and awards from Digicel, one of the competition’s major sponsors.

The four other participating schools were Mountain View Adventist Academy, in 2nd position, Barrouallie Secondary, 3rd, Bequia Community High School, 4th, and the St. Clair Dacon Secondary, 5th.

Cecil Charles, Education Officer/Media in the Ministry of Education, congratulated all the participating schools on having made it to the National Championship. “You have done well!” Charles related that he hopes those who didn’t make it were not discouraged, and was confident that they had learnt something from their participation. He expressed the feeling that the Championship winners could succeed at the regional semi-finals and progress to the regional finals in Barbados, a sentiment echoed by Kenyatta Lewis, Chairperson of the National Organising Committee.

The panel of judges included Kenyatta Lewis, Sylvia Stoddard, Frances Clarke and Patsy Wyllie. (JSV)
