NIPI, EU Sponsor local designers for Caribbean Fashion Canada

The National Investment Promotion Inc. (NIPI) in collaboration with the European Union (EU) has sponsored two of our local designers at the upcoming Caribbean Fashion Canada dubbed “Fashion Has No Borders” scheduled to take place in Toronto on July 25, 2008.{{more}}

Fashion Has No Borders will celebrate the energy and substance of style across races, classes and cultures. It will bring the best in fashion, beauty, music and art from various corners of the globe to the forefront of the fashion scene. It’s a convergence of international cultures, from designers to entertainers to celebrities from around the world. The show will provide designers with a unique opportunity to showcase their creations in front of an audience of serious influencers – media, stylists, consumers and buyers.

The two local designers participating are: Kimon Baptiste, the Country Designer Award Winner for St. Vincent and the Grenadines for 2008, as well as Kimya Glasgow, one of SVG’s most talented and experienced designers. The two young designers applied independently of NIPI to the Canadian organizers and were chosen to display their collection, which affirms that St. Vincent and the Grenadines has what it takes to compete in the International Market. The show will highlight the vibrant and colourful collections of designers from across the Caribbean… Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, Trinidad, and St Vincent and The Grenadines, making it the largest showcase of Caribbean fashion design in North America.

The event will be held at the Palais Royale Ballroom in Toronto and will be covered by international press such as:

Elle – a worldwide magazine that focuses on women, fashion, beauty, health and entertainment. It is now the world’s largest fashion magazine, with 39 international editions in over 60 countries; The National Post – a Canadian English-language national newspaper; The Globe and Mail – a Canadian English language nationally distributed newspaper based in Toronto and printed in six cities across the country and CTV – a Canadian English language television network. It is Canada’s largest privately owned network.

The NIPI recognizes that this development initiative of the Creative Sector i.e. Fashion Industry is very significant to enable St.Vincent and the Grenadines to preserve and improve its comparative advantages and chart the new course for the Fashion Industry in St.Vincent and the Grenadines
