Largo Heights joins crime fight


This Sunday, July 20, 2008, the Largo Heights Community will benefit from the donation of steel pans, funded by the Social Investment Fund (SIF). The commissioning of the Pans will take place at 4:30 p.m. at the Largo Heights playing field, in the continuation of the “Pan Against Crime” Campaign.{{more}}

The Largo Heights Community Development Organisation will be the recipient of the new steel pans and other musical instruments valued at some $200,000.

The Police Band will collaborate with the Largo Heights Community Development Organisation in co-ordinating training and programs for young persons in the district, with interest in this field.

Addresses will be delivered by representatives of the Youlou Pan Movement and the Social Investment Fund, Commissioner of Police Keith Miller and Parliamentary Representative for the area, Rene Baptiste, who will be the featured speaker.

The culture package will include performances from Youths of the Largo Height Community Development Organisation, Ronnique Fraser, 1st runner up in the Junior Calypso Monarch Competition 2008, Shannelle Mc Kenzie, Symphonix and Starlift Steel Orchestras and the Police Band. Rev. Elton Watson of the Methodist Church will present the Exhortation.

The occasion will also be used to launch the Police Band’s first ever Summer Program, which is scheduled to commence on Monday, July 21.
