The resident of Green Hill said that she has been living on a parcel of land owned by her deceased grandmother for over 12 years. She explained that when her grandmother was alive, she gave her (Porter) permission to build a house on the land.

Porter claims that about two years ago, another Green Hill resident, Vanley Haynes, started claiming that the land belongs to him.

Porter explained that Haynes sent her a “lawyer letter” requesting that she move her house from his property. She said that Haynes claims that he has a letter signed by her grandmother giving him ownership of the land.

The mother of four said that Haynes has started building a structure on the property and it is encroaching on her one bedroom home.

Speaking with Searchlight on Wednesday, Porter said that Haynes has blocked up her house so that she and her children have to enter the house through the window. “It is very difficult,” she said.

Porter said that mud is coming into her house and “when the rain come, water does be in de house”. She explained that she has to use a shovel to take “mud out of de kitchen.”

The petite woman lamented that her children are afraid to sleep in the house and she has nowhere else to go. “Mr. Haynes don’t concern about me and de children,” she said. When contacted by Searchlight, Haynes claimed ownership of the land but declined to comment further. (VM)
