The festival, which is into its sixth year, is being sponsored by telecommunications provider Digicel and runs from April 5th to 27th. During the month there are weekly zonal showcases across the country in seven separate zones, including North Leeward, North Windward, the Marriaqua Valley, South Leeward, South Windward, Kingstown and the Grenadines.

These zonal showcases culminate in two nights of National Gospel Showcases in which the best of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and top regional and international artistes appear in music, song, dance, drama, stand up comedy and sermonette.

The opening show this Saturday night, which begins at 7:00 pm, is dubbed: “Get Your Praise On”, and will feature an evening of music, dance and comedy featuring gospel bands New Life Ambassadors, New Generation, High Praise, Ekklesia and Eden, along with dance groups Diadem Dancers and KLT Dancers. Comedian Sylvia Williams will also be part of the program. Guest artistes for the show will be the 35-member Cuffy Sisters out of Trinidad who will be presenting an exciting dance and song package.

With close to 400 entries from 96 churches and over 1,000 participants in 2007, Digicel SVG Gospel Fest has rapidly become a major event on the national calendar. 2008 is expected to see continued growth in the festival as local gospel artistes use the opportunity to showcase their diverse talents.

Digicel SVG Gospel Fest is being held under the theme: “Get Your Praise On”.
