Sion Hill prepares for 2008 Christmas lighting

The Sion Hill Community, initiator and winner of the first ever National Community Christmas lighting competition, is once more preparing to compete in the 2008 Christmas

And, this year, they say, is a special one, as they mark their tenth anniversary. To this end, they have started to plan early “In order to give the nation a spectacle never seen before in community lighting in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” a release from the Sion Hill Lighting committee said.

As part of the build up to the lighting competition, a slogan competition, which is open to residents of the Sion Hill community has been launched. The competition is seeking a theme that would be the focus of the lighting of the Sion Hill intersection, the gateway to Kingstown, the capital.

The competition closes April 15, 2008, with the winner to receive an attractive cash prize.

As part of the 10th anniversary celebrations, the first ever Christmas song competition will be held on the night of the launching, along with fireworks display and the appearance of a foreign guest artiste.

The Sion Hill Lighting committee is looking forward to the support of the business community, especially those that own advertising boards in the area, the residents of Sion Hill as well as those in the Diaspora, for their support in making this venture a grand one, as is intended.

The Sion Hill Community last captured the National Lighting Community competition in 2003.
