Calliaqua Anglican students armed with Literacy tools

Armed with slogans, themes and anthems heralding the benefits of reading, the literacy department of the Calliaqua Anglican School launched its Hats off to Reading programme on Monday, in their usual grand fashion.{{more}}

The launch kicked off a week of activities that saw students taking part in a spelling bee competition, public speaking, an exhibition, as well as having visits from community members.

Monday’s launching also saw the presentation of trophies and certificates to winners and participants in the school’s Read-A-Thon.

The top three winners: Keron Knights, Brensley Bacchus and Mekel Glasgow were awarded with trophies.

The school’s Literacy Coordinator Anna Barnwell-Primus, speaking to Searchlight, indicated that the week of activities is usually a highly successful event that motivates students to read more. The students were encouraged to read for fun, enjoyment and meaning.
