The assistance, in the form of tools and equipment, and the refurbishing of the laundry room, is part three of a five-stage development drive that has been undertaken by the SVGSIF.

The three-year programme got started last year and is expected to cost over EC $250,000.

The tools, which will be used in the carpentry shop, will, among other things, assist the boys with their pen and bottle stopper project, which they produce using local wood.

They also received a PA system, television and DVD, a computer and printer.

Apart from the refurbished laundry room, a counseling and resource centre was officially opened at Tuesday’s ceremony.

Director of the training centre Michael Akers, during his remarks, thanked the SVGSIF for the donations, promising that the boys staying at the centre would make the most of the contributions.

Theophilus Shallow, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the SVGSIF, stated that his organization was pleased to be of assistance to the centre, and that they were looking forward to the next two stages of the project, which include the refurbishing of the dormitory and the extension of the centre’s agricultural program.

Also present at the handing over was Minister of National Mobilization Mike Browne, who applauded the initiative of the SVGSIF.

He reminded the residents that the equipment, tools and facilities were donated to improve their livelihood.

The students also received clothing from the government of Taiwan.(JJ)
