Officials of the Ministry of Trade and the Bureau of Standards are urging consumers to be more vigilant and aware of products being stored, sold or disguised in substitute containers.{{more}}

This came on the heels of the arrests of Wendellyn Browne and Kathian Morgan, who were found with cocaine in liquid form, in sorrel syrup.

In a joint press conference with police officials last Thursday, Head of the Bureau of Standards Ezra Ledger and Daniel Delpesche of the Ministry of Trade called on persons to beware that products that they are about to consume around this time may be stored in the wrong packages and containers, and could be a health hazard.

Consumers are being urged to check labels and seals to ensure that they are not tampered with, and to make sure that the products advertised on the labels and packages are what are indeed in the containers.

Deputy Comptroller of Customs Albert Francis added that persons who are taking packages overseas on behalf of others should have these packages packed and sealed in their presence to ensure that they are not transporting illegal substances unknowingly. (JJ)
