Girls’ High student wins first monthly Bible Quiz

Davionne Ellis, a fourth form student of the Girls’ High School, is the first winner of the Scriptural Search – Secondary Schools’ Bible Quiz (SSBQ).{{more}}

Davionne won from among students from seven schools who participated in the quiz. The presentation was made at the school’s final assembly and Christmas Concert on Friday, December 14, in the presence of the Headmistress Andrea Bowman, Deputy Headmistress Bronty Williams, staff and students. Edley Dunbar of Scriptural Search presented the award of a Bible and $75.

Before the presentation was made, Joel Jack outlined the thought behind this project, which is expected to be a monthly one. He lamented that though SVG is considered to be a Christian society by many, fewer and fewer persons are seemingly respecting the Bible as a standard of conduct. This is manifested in the level of deviant behaviour and even criminal activity. SSBQ is an attempt to arrest the drift away from the Bible. He expressed that if more of the nation’s people learn, live and love The Word, lives will be enriched.

Jack, no stranger to youth work (the first project chairman of the annual Secondary Schools’ Public Speaking competition in SVG when it was organized by the Jaycees), is calling on parents, teachers and other educational officials to encourage participation in the Bible Quiz. He indicated that over time the value of the prizes will increase, but stressed that the non-tangible benefits are immensely greater.

The Bible Quiz is open to all students of Secondary Schools and Multipurpose Centres throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
