The seminar, which took place at the Chamber of Commerce conference room on Tuesday, saw representatives of the building and construction industry, business owners and representatives, and engineers discussing matters affecting the industry, and ways to improve the standards of construction.

Minister of Housing Senator Julian Francis, who delivered the feature address, called on the stakeholders to raise the bar in the construction sector.

He touched on a number of areas that he would like to see improve, mainly in construction of beams and columns, installation of windows and doors and the plumbing and electrical fittings.

He called on contractors and supervisors to pay specific attention to these aspects, if construction is to be safer, and the buildings are to last longer.

Director of the Bureau of Standards Ezra Ledger indicated that the seminar was convened to promote health and general safety of Vincentians, through compliance with the Bureau of Standards regulations. (JJ)
