Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said that the steel band movement in the country will be hard pressed to replace the late Andrew Johnson of New Montrose, who passed away earlier this week.{{more}}

Johnson, who died after a bout with cancer, was a long and outstanding member of the Starlift Organisation, and at one time held the distinction of being the longest serving Treasurer of that organization.

Prime Minister Gonsalves in his capacity as acting Minister of Culture said that Andrew Johnson was a quiet individual who dedicated his life to the development of the steelband movement in general, and the Starlift Orchestra in particular.

He extended condolences on behalf of his government to the surviving relatives of the late Andrew Johnson, and to members of the Starlift Orchestra, on their deep loss.

Andrew Johnson was credited with playing with the Starlift Orchestra in every panorama competition that Starlift participated in since he joined the organization in 1973.
