$5000 to upgrade Guidance and Counselling room

These were the words of gratitude spoken by the Counselor of the Campden Park Secondary School, following the upgrading of the Guidance and Counseling room.{{more}}

The project, which took four months to be completed, cost $5000 and was accomplished by Elvis Charles, a teacher of the school as part of his practicum for the University of the West Indies (UWI) programme in Educational Leadership.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Charles confirmed that he decided to take up the initiative to develop the counseling room since both the teachers and the guidance counselor are faced with significant challenges to deal with the deviant behaviour exhibited by some of the students.

“It is my hope that this facility will foster social, academic, emotional and psychological development of all of us here at Bethel High School,” Charles stated.

Counselor at the school Anastacia Bascombe thanked Charles and said that the confidentiality aspect is now improved.

Also speaking at the school were the Senior Education Officer responsible for primary schools and supervisor of the project Sylvia Sayers who congratulated Charles on behalf of the Ministry of Education for conducting a project that was well done.

The funds were obtained through various activities that were held at the school including Pay and Wear and raffles and by various donations made by the parents and business places.

The items donated were an air-conditioner, a computer, flowers, a filing cabinet and some masonary work done inside the room along with painting. (SB)
