Miss SVG contestants to be named soon


The public would soon get to know the eight contestants selected to represent this country in the prestigious Miss SVG pageant.

Although no date to reveal the names of the contestants has been announced, in a press release from the Carnival Development Coporation (CDC), head of the Beauty Shows Committee Cheryl Rodriguez however outlined that photos and biographies of the contestants would be provided to the print media and photos of the beauties would soon be placed at the gallery at Singer as well as Coreas City Store.{{more}}

Rodriguez said that the goal of the committee was to “prepare the contestants for every facet of the competition, while gaining a sense of empowerment, self-worth and self confidence to achieve the ultimate level of success in their lives.”

The head of the Beauty Shows Committee also pointed out that the eight contestants were being trained in Grooming & Image Development, Posture, Poise, Walk and On Stage Presentation, Handling the Media and Interviews, Confidence Building

Communication and Body Language skills, Wardrobe selection, Bio preparation and Professional make-up techniques.

Training sessions are being conducted by the Blue Angels Personal Development and Modeling Agency but the contestants’ chaperons would also assist them.

On June 2 at the Victoria Park, the contestants would first make a non-judged introductory appearance in a costume from a mas band and would then make their judged appearances in the Swimwear category which will carry 25 points, Talent 20 points, Evening Gown 25 points and Interview 30 points.

The winner of the Miss SVG pageant will walk away with a three-year, $80,000 scholarship from the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, tenable at the University of the West Indies, $8000 from the Carnival Development Corporation along with gifts from the private sector. The lucky winner will also represent this country in the Miss Carival pageant on Friday 6th July 2007.

The First Runner-up will win $5,000 second runner-up $3,000 while all other contestants would receive $1,000.

Sheridan Lewis of Arnos Vale, a radio announcer, is the reigning Miss SVG. She is expected to take up her scholarship at the UWI Mona Campus from September 2007 in Media and Communications.

The Miss SVG Pageant is the CDC’s second largest show during Vincy Mas, with Soca Monarch taking first place.
