Some 20 students now have a competitive edge when seeking employment in this country’s fisheries sector.

The students were involved in a three-day supervisory management and standard operating procedures workshop for supervisors in late November.

The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries.{{more}}

Officials from the ministry as well as the Technical College have praised it as a tremendous success.

Manager of the National Fisheries Marketing Limited Veda Gumbs said the division needed a cadre of trained potential employees and it was therefore decided that the students from the Technical College should be involved.

According to the Chief Fisheries Officer Raymond Ryan it is anticipated that the participants who have received the training will be able to work as supervisors in the fisheries sector.

Ryan added that quite a lot of improvements have been made in the fisheries sector and properly trained persons are needed to work in the unit.

Meanwhile, principal of the SVG Technical College Joseph Mapp said it is a policy that the college co-partners with institutions and agencies that possess the necessary resources for training and welcomed the opportunity to do so.

The students were presented with certificates Wednesday morning at a brief closing ceremony.
