EG Lynch loses appeal in defamation case

Political activist and radio talk show host, Edwardo Lynch, has lost his appeal before the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal in a defamation case brought against him by Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves.

Lynch has been found guilty of falsely and maliciously accusing the prime minister of corruptly using state funds to pay for airline tickets from St Vincent to Rome and accommodation costs for his daughter and mother. The defamatory remarks were made on the New Times radio programme.{{more}}

Lynch who previously lost the case in the High Court appealed but in a ruling this week delivered by Mr Justice of Appeal Barrow described Lynch’s appeal as “one of those cases where the defendant had no realistic prospect of success” according to a release from the Prime Minister’s office.

The release said that the prime minister shall be applying to the High Court for judgment to be entered and for damages to be assessed against Lynch and Nice Radio.

The award will be donated to charities within St Vincent and the Grenadines.
