St. Joseph Convent scores high in CXC


The success of the St Joseph Convent has come as no surprise, said Principal Calma Balcombe. The formula for success was the focused and disciplined students as well as astute teachers, she added.

The Convent scored an 82.59 per cent pass rate in this year’s Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) exams.{{more}}

Top student, 16-year-old Caletra Ferdinand, said she wants to teach pre-school during the next year exploring also whether she could carve a niche in early childhood education.

Ferdinand who sat 11 subjects, received eight 1’s, two 2’s and a grade A for GCE. Ballet dancing and self-defence (karate) were among her hobbies. At school she was a prefect, vice captain of her sporting house, and Deputy Head Girl.

Karlene Telesford, 16, another top performer with four 1’s, three 2’s, three 3’s and a grade A in GCE will be pursuing Computer Studies, French and Business Studies at the Community College. The dream of this model, basketballer, and former prefect is to own her own business. Her colleague, and another top performer, Kiera DeFreitas, received three grade 1’s, five grade 2’s and three grade 3’s.
