Ambassador donates $1,000 to Miss SVG

Taiwan’s Ambassador to St Vincent and the Grenadines, Jack Cheng was so impressed with what he saw during carnival 2006, that he opted to raised the promised donation to the winner of the Miss SVG pageant from $500 to $1,000.

A very pleased Miss SVG, Sheridan Lewis, received the cheque from Ambassador Cheng last Tuesday, August 8 at the Murray’s Road Embassy Headquarters.{{more}}

“I hoped that she would have won the Miss Carival Show also,” said Cheng.

Ambassador Cheng took the opportunity to invite Lewis along with the other Miss SVG contestants to be guests of the Taiwan Embassy at a grand dance production to be held at the Peace Memorial Hall on Sunday, August 27.

The production is part of the celebration of Taiwan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ 25 years of diplomatic relations and would feature the Taipei Folk Dance Theater.

The 15-member Dance troop is on a Caribbean tour, presenting their production “Dream World” and will include stops in Belize and St. Kitts. Other carnival personnel have also been invited to join in the celebration.

Local dance groups are also expected to perform at the one night only show.

Sheridan and Carnival Development Committee Chairman Dennis Ambrose, both expressed their gratitude to Ambassador Cheng and the Taiwanese people for their contribution. A cheque for $500 was also handed over to Ambrose to be delivered to the reigning Miss Carival, Miss Dominica, Nakita Bruno.
