Nanton is Employee of second quarter

His dream is to become the finest journalist ever in St.Vincent and the Grenadines, and one of the best in the region.

This is the driving force that has kept SEARCHLIGHT newspaper’s Senior Reporter, Hawkins Nanton, maintaining a high standard of journalism for the past 10 years and a half.{{more}}

It is no surprise that he was awarded the SEARCHLIGHT designation – Employee of the Quarter for the period April-June 2006 for his hard work and dedication.

“My aim in life, as I indicated as early as 1995 when I came on the scene as a trainee reporter at the News, is to make a difference as I inform and educate people, equipping them with the necessary information to make proper decisions on a daily basis,” Nanton said.

Nanton explained that while he is elated to be recognized as the Employee of the Quarter, it did not come as a surprise.

“I always try to make a 200 per cent effort and it’s always motivating that one’s effort is sometimes recognized,” said Nanton.

He is very appreciative of his co-workers for their nomination, aware that they could have chosen someone else.

The former St.Vincent Grammar School and Community College student said his dream is to help lift the standard of journalism in St.Vincent and the Grenadines. Nanton who holds a diploma with honours in Media and Communication from the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC), University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, is hoping to rise to the level where he will be able to revolutionize the media in St.Vincent and the Grenadines and assist in instilling best media practices in young persons interested in pursuing a career in journalism.

In September he is hoping to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media and Communication at the UWI, Mona Campus.
