Life would never be the same for a number of residents of the interior south leeward village of Vermont, with the members of the Bushay family being the most severely affected.

The consternation has to do with the death of 10-year-old Jamarley Bushay who succumbed to injuries after being struck by a passenger van HM 36 driven by Denzil Quashie.{{more}}

The incident occurred on the Vermont Public road around 4:40 last week Friday afternoon, May 26.

The young Jamarley, affectionately known as ‘Santo’, was returning home from the Dubois Government School where he was a Grade Four pupil.

He celebrated his tenth birthday May 18, and is one of five children born to Noreen Bushay and Chalice Wyllie.

Among those trying to overcome the grief of Jamarley’s death is his twin brother Jamarie Bushay.

The young child’s grandmother Ellie Bushay was also filled with sadness over the incident.

She described the deceased as “quiet,” and “cute.”

“He was the best child in the yard,” Ellie Bushay stated.

Jamarley was a typical Vincentian child who loved cricket, and according to his grandmother loved to watch the game on television, “night and all.”

Jamarley’s death was the eighth road fatality for the year, but by the following Monday, the figure had increased to nine.

Eleven persons died on the road for 2005.
