There may be light at the end of the tunnel for 12-year-old Kidame Kingman of Calder. She was scheduled to undergo treatment for an ulcer in her stomach in Vermont in the United States of America last Wednesday, May 17.

The ulcer has been causing her tremendous pain; the stress has also affected her father Maliki.

He has been feeling the grief of her ailment and even though the agony is not over, Maliki is hoping that the operation in the USA will put an end to her woes.{{more}}

Maliki is happy that he was able to secure a US visa recently. The presence of the ailing child may have persuaded the authorities to grant the visa.

“Getting the visa was the hardest,” Maliki said.

Some citizens and business houses have responded favourably to the request for help from Kidame. Maliki disclosed promises by the government to assist with Kidame’s hospital bills.

Kidame and her father left St. Vincent and the Grenadines last week Friday, May 12.

Kidame’s plight was highlighted in the February 10, 2006 edition of the Searchlight newspaper.
