A team of Cuban officials including Ophthalmologists are now in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to continue work on the next phase of the Vision Now programme.

This next phase will focus on providing glasses to persons already on the programme. Of the almost 15,000 Vincentians who were screened, many were found to have refractory problems, needing eye glasses.{{more}}

Minister of Health Dr. Douglas Slater pointed out that negotiations were done with the Cubans and they have agreed to assist with the provision of these glasses free of charge.

A temporary clinic has been set up at the Ministry of Health building, upstairs the Post Office. Persons who have been screened by the team are now required to be tested by the specialists from Monday to Friday between the hours of

9 a.m. and 2 a.m. to determine the specific measurements required to make the glasses.

After the tests are conducted, the results will be sent to Venezuela where the glasses will be manufactured and sent back to St. Vincent.

The Vision Now programme started last year in collaboration with the Cuban Government to improve significantly the visual health of Vincentians.
