Grenville John, Comptroller of Customs and Excise is firm in his belief that training is “crucial to the development of a professional Customs and Excise Department.”

He stressed the importance of training which he stated would go a long way, and “can also serve to build team spirit and an awareness of the need for responsibility and loyalty to the department.”

As far as John was concerned, the enhanced training would result in “greater productivity, a higher standard of service, increased efficiency.”

John expressed the view that “participants personal skills would be improved, your anxieties would be reduced, your motivational levels would be increased, you would become more confident and secure workers, you would have increased job satisfaction and your chances of international promotion would be enhanced.”

John is hopeful that the implementation of the Asycuda system would contribute to the developmental process.

The training course, the seventh conducted by the Customs since 1994, is being held under the theme: “Facilitating legitimate international trade and travel.” It opened on Monday at the Service Commissions Department Training Room.
