GEORGETOWN: Guyana President Bharrat Jagdeo on Tuesday upped the pressure on the security services saying that they have been unable to quell the threat posed by 15 to 20 gunmen and he also vowed that the murderers of Minister Satyadeow Sawh and three other persons will be tracked down.

Sawh, Minister of Agriculture, his brother, sister and a security guard were killed last Saturday at his home. Police said the minister was shot in his left leg, head and buttocks.

Armed police with tracker dogs were engaged in a massive manhunt on Sunday night for a group of about seven men dressed in black who shot their way into the minister’s home about eight miles east of the capital, Georgetown, around 12:45 Saturday morning.{{more}}

They killed his brother Rajpat Sawh, 62, sister Phulmattie Persaud, 54, and security guard, Curtis Robinson, 38.

The minister’s siblings were visiting from Canada.

The assailants were given the money and jewellery they demanded, but still killed the minister, according to his wife, Sattie Sawh, who said she survived by hiding in the house.

A distraught Sawh said she heard the gunmen demand money and valuables and the family gave them everything they had.

“They still turned around and shot them,” she said hours after the attack at her house.
