On Friday March 10th 2006, a Photocopier valued at $3,995.00 was presented to Mr Hugh Wyllie, the Director of the National Literacy Crusade by Mrs Cheryl Rodriguez of the National Commercial Bank (SVG) Ltd. in the presence of Mrs Frances Palmer, Co-ordinator and the ten Zonal Facilitators.

In her remarks Mrs Rodriguez said the “the Bank is impressed with the work of the Organization, and is committed to assisting in ensuring that we achieve 100% literacy in SVG”. Mrs Rodriguez will also serve as a resource person to make a presentation on Banking and the Financial Services to the Zonal Co-ordinators in April 2006.

Mr Wyllie in accepting the photocopier expressed his appreciation to the NCB, which he said “was the only Financial Institution to have come to our aid when we wrote”. He said that they are in need of other items such as stationery and urged other individuals and institutions to assist them in their efforts.

Mrs Frances Palmer, Co-ordinator, in her remarks invited persons to volunteer to be trained by the National Literacy Crusade at times convenient to them, to assist clients who call at their various business places.

Mr Andrew Campbell, Zonal Facilitator for Zone 7 in the Barrouallie area, who spoke on behalf of the Facilitators present, thanked the NCB for its useful donation. He said that the Barrouallie area has benefited from information and material received from the NCB’s Barrouallie Branch, which he was able to utilize in teaching students in his classes.

The National Literacy Crusade has been in operation since January 2005. Some two thousand three hundred (2,300) persons have been in training by the ten (10) Zonal Facilitators and their assistants.
