Dr. Gonsalves states position on honours

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has made it clear to critics who oppose the conferring of colonial honours on locals that he has no interest in receiving one.

“I want to say with absolute clarity to the people of St.Vincent and the Grenadines the only honour I want is the honour of the hearts of men, women, boys and girls of St.Vincent and the Grenadines,” said Dr. Gonsalves.

He added: “When I dead and gone, all I want to do is to remain in the hearts of women, men, boys and girls.” {{more}}

Dr. Gonsalves said he is stating his personal position on the British honours “to clear that particular part of the malice” some people have expressed that he might have interest in receiving one.

The Prime Minister noted until St.Vincent and the Grenadines becomes a republic and new honours are established, the honours that exist will be conferred to nationals deserving of them.

He said the honour conferred on his Deputy Prime Minister, Sir Louis Straker, is one that is well deserved.
