President of Republic of China on Taiwan for historic visit

President Chen Shui-bian of the Republic of China on Taiwan will make a historic visit to St.Vincent and the Grenadines next Wednesday afternoon.

And for this event a grand ceremony has been planned to be staged at the E.T Joshua Airport, which will feature a guard of honor and cultural programme.

The president who will leave the state the following day will address Parliament before his departure. {{more}}

This visit is expected to deepen the ties between St.Vincent and the Grenadines and Taiwan, one of this country’s closest allies.

President Chen-Shui-bian was born into the family of a tenant farmer in the Guantian Township of Tainan County in 1950.

Growing up in poverty did not weaken President Chen’s aspiration for a better future. Although his family had to borrow money to put him through school, the President graduated at the top of his class from Long Tian Elementary School, the junior department of Zeng Wun High School, and Tainan First Senior High School. On March 18, 2000, President Chen won the popular mandate and was elected as the tenth-term president of the Republic of China on Taiwan.His inauguration on May 20, 2000 marked the first alternation of governing party and the peaceful transfer of power in the ROC, an outstanding democratic achievement among the ethnic Chinese societies of the world. On March 20, 2004, President Chen was successfully reelected President of the Republic of China on Taiwan.
