Mexico is the latest country to sign on to the multi-nation assistance approach to this project, which will see Taiwan, Canada, Cuba and Venezuela participating.

Prime Minister Gonsalves led the four-member Mexican delegation, headed by Ambassador Alejandro Garcia Moreno on a tour of the site which covers the area from Stubbs to Argyle.

The other members of the visiting team included Professor of Airports at the University of Mexico, Federico Dovali; Engineer at the Navigation & Aeronautic Information Head Office, Uriel Gonzalez and Manager for new projects, Jorge Bellot.

The visit by this Mexican team follows one by three Cuban airport engineering specialists who visited St. Vincent earlier this year. The team led by Dr. Gonsalves hailed the airport project as fantastic and said that he was glad that Mexico had agreed to partner with this country in the exercise.

Commenting after the tour, Moreno said that the airport project has great economic potential for the Vincentian economy. He thanked the Government of St. Vincent & the Grenadines for inviting Mexico to be a part of the project.

The delegation which visited the airport site was part of a 10 member delegation. Four of the other delegates dealt with land reform including over hauling and computerizing of the registry system.

The other two looked at culture including promotion and expansion of music in the schools, developing the museum archives and managing historical documents.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves paid an official five-day visit to Mexico late last month. There he held talks with President Vicente Fox, securing assistance for the construction of the international airport. Both leaders also discussed technical co-operation in the areas of Education, Health, Agro Business and Culture.
