Homeless fire victim tells of her plight

“I am homeless, don’t have no food and I don’t have a job. I am sad right now!”

This is the plight openly expressed by Antonette Wynne of Redemption Sharpes after her home was destroyed by fire on Wednesday, May 11.{{more}}

Wynne, is still trying to come to grips with her loss after witnessing her home destroyed.

The lady said she was at her grandmother’s home when neighbours alerted her during the wee hours of the morning that her two-room home was on fire. It was a house she had just renovated and was valued at EC$13, 000 at the time of its destruction.

The young woman said this happened less than 24 hours after a neighbour threatened to burn her house down during an argument.

“I did not take it for anything. I could not believe it when I saw the entire house blow up in flames and burn right down to the ground,” said Wynne, who explained she was unable to save anything.

Wynne said the police told her gasoline might have been used to start the fire.

The young woman said she will now have to start her life from scratch again.
