Walter Child, a former teacher and public servant, has skilfully put together a beautiful book of poems called “The Essence of Life”.

Lawyer Cecil “Blazer” Williams, sharing his views on “The Essence of Life” said the canvas is Child’s first disclosure of his creative mind to those who regard reading as an important ingredient in their life. {{more}}

Williams said the poems generally reflect Child’s deep religious upbringing and conviction and longing for “man’s peace and happiness” to multiply.

He added the reader would find that the selection of poems is a refreshing breeze on the poetic landscape.

“Once I started the thoughts kept flowing. I couldn’t stop writing,” said Child, who claimed he wrote the 40-page book of 30 poems in the month of September.

Child said his experiences over the years are reflected in this book of poetry.

“Say not that you are independent,

For whether you are rich or poor,

Educated or ignorant;

Whether on eagles’ wings you soar

Or sit low in despondency,

You must depend inevitably

On someone.”

Those are some of the words penned by Child for the poem “The Dependency of Man”.

The book can be purchased at EC$10 at the Community Develop-ment Division, Ministry of Social Development and VINSAVE.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and Minister of Tourism and Culture Rene Baptiste were full of praises for the book which was launched at the University of the West Indies School of Continuing Studies.
